Top Kremlin negotiator in Washington for talks with Trump envoy — The Washington Post
Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund who has played a key role in Moscow’s talks with the Trump administration, has traveled to Washington for a meeting with President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, The Washington Post reported.
A source familiar with the talks told the outlet on Wednesday that negotiations were “ongoing.” It was unclear whether the meeting had concluded at the time of publication.
On the morning of April 3, Dmitriev posted a message on X, emphasizing the importance of dialogue between Russia and the United States. “Whatever your politics — dialogue between the US and Russia matters,” he wrote. “It’s about building a more secure, more prosperous world for everyone.” The post included an image of a plane flying across the Atlantic toward Washington.
CBS News previously reported that the meeting was scheduled to take place at the White House. CNN noted that U.S. authorities had temporarily lifted sanctions against Dmitriev to issue him a visa for the visit.
Dmitriev’s visit to the U.S. comes amid recent statements by Donald Trump expressing anger over remarks by Vladimir Putin questioning the legitimacy of Ukraine’s government. According to The Washington Post, Trump has grown impatient with Putin’s delay in engaging in talks over Ukraine. The outlet suggests that Dmitriev traveled to Washington “to assuage the administration and reemphasize the possibility of not only a peace settlement but also large financial deals.”
