Trump says he’s ‘pissed off’ at Putin and threatens Russian oil tariffs if Moscow prevents Ukraine deal

U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that he was “very angry” and “pissed off” by Putin’s calls for a U.N.-led transitional government in Ukraine and warned that he could impose 25 percent secondary tariffs on Russian oil exports if an agreement wasn’t reached due to Russia’s actions.

“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump told NBC News.

He said that the 25 percent tariffs could be imposed at any time and would take effect within a month if an agreement wasn’t reached. “That means if you buy oil from Russia, you won’t be able to do business in the U.S.,” Trump explained. He added that Putin knows he’s angry but noted that the two leaders have “a very good relationship,” saying that “the anger dissipates quickly... if he does the right thing.”

Trump said that he and Putin plan to speak this week.
