Trump and Putin have held multiple unpublicized calls in recent weeks, U.S. president says

U.S. President Donald Trump said he’s spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin several times in recent weeks — not only in their publicly announced phone call on Tuesday.

“[Tuesday’s call] was a very good call,” Trump said in an interview with the Washington Examiner. “I think it’s the beginning of something good. The beginning really took place three or four weeks ago. You know, I’ve spoken to Putin over — this isn’t just a call that began it. We’ve had other calls.”

When asked whether these discussions had been made public, Trump replied, “No, but this is a continuation of positive. If it was not positive, I’d tell you.”
