The European Union is preparing to send at least six billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, Politico reported, citing three E.U. diplomats.
The package is expected to include more than 1.5 million artillery shells, as well as air defense systems. Its total value could rise to 10 billion euros if E.U. countries are able to supply additional weapons from their stockpiles, sources told Politico.
An announcement could come ahead of February 24, the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
According to Politico, the aid package is intended not only to reaffirm the E.U.’s commitment to supporting Kyiv but also to strengthen the case for including the bloc in negotiations on ending the war.
