The plane carrying U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch to the Munich Security Conference turned back to Washington due to a mechanical issue, the Associated Press reported.

“The plane has turned around and is returning to Joint Base Andrews,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said. “The secretary intends to continue his travel to Germany and the Middle East on a separate aircraft.”

It is unclear whether Rubio will arrive in time for his scheduled meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday morning, AP noted.
