Fire breaks out at Lukoil oil refinery in Volgograd after Ukrainian drone attack

Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia’s Volgograd region early on Friday, according to the region’s governor, Andrey Bocharov.

Bocharov said that air defense systems shot down eight drones during the night. Debris from one of them caused a fire at the refinery, though the blaze was quickly extinguished. One worker was injured and hospitalized.

Media reported that the refinery hit in the attack belonged to Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka. The regional news outlet V1.ru published video footage of the drone strike, filmed in the south of the city.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that Ukrainian drones targeted seven regions overnight. According to the ministry, air defenses intercepted and destroyed 49 drones, including 25 over the Rostov region, eight over Volgograd, six over Kursk, four over Yaroslavl, and two each over Belgorod, Voronezh, and Krasnodar Krai.
