The central Russian city of Kazan was attacked by drones on Sunday night, with multiple explosions reported near the city’s Gorbunov Aviation Plant, according to several Telegram channels. The channel Baza noted that explosions were also heard in the Moskovsky, Kirovsky, and Novo-Savinsky districts of Kazan.
Airports in Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, and Izhevsk temporarily suspended flights in response to the attack.
Tatarstan Governor Rustam Minnikhanov’s press service described the incident as “an attempted attack by enemy drones on industrial facilities in the republic.”
“A range of protective measures were implemented. As a result, all drones were neutralized. There are no casualties or damage. Emergency services continue to work on site to address the aftermath,” RBC quoted the press release as saying.
Following the attack, debris from one of the drones was found near a residential building in Kazan. “Security services carried out an inspection; there is no threat to life, and the piece is not explosive,” the mayor’s office reportedly said.
