A 16-year-old wearing a balaclava and armed with a hammer entered School No. 54 in Kursk, Russia, according to Alexander Khinshtein, the acting governor of the region. Khinshtein stated that the security guard on duty at the entrance “was unable to stop him for some reason.”

“The teenager ran into the building, smashed a window in the corridor, and, despite being pursued, left the premises unimpeded, breaking the front door glass with the hammer on his way out,” Khinshtein said. “While fleeing, he dropped a bag at the entrance containing two knives and a bottle of lighter fluid. The entire incident lasted no more than two minutes.”

By the time police arrived, the teenager had fled, but he was later apprehended. According to the governor, the boy, a student at another school, claimed that “a difficult relationship with a student at School No. 54” had prompted his actions.
