Trump team shaves two months off president-elect’s latest Ukraine peace deal timeline
President-elect Trump’s nominee for special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, told Fox News on Wednesday that he hopes the United States can broker a “solvable solution” to the war in Ukraine within 100 days of Donald Trump’s inauguration. “If there is a way to do this in the near term, to make sure the solution is solid and sustainable and this war ends, so we stop the carnage,” Kellogg said, acknowledging that the challenge of ending Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine “is a tough one.”
During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump famously claimed that he could “stop the dying” in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office. During a press conference on January 7, 2025, the president-elect revised his timeline, saying, “I hope to have six months. No, I would think, I hope long before six months.” Trump also told reporters that he sympathizes with Russian opposition to Ukrainian NATO membership, which Kyiv now insists is necessary to ensure Ukraine’s post-war security.
