Genealogy platform MyHeritage will exit Russia and delete Russian user data

Source: TV Rain

The online genealogy platform MyHeritage has announced that it will exit the Russian market and delete Russian user data from its servers after February 1, 2025. MyHeritage is “forced to suspend its services in Russia due to local legislation,” the company informed RFE/RL. MyHeritage clients in Russia told Meduza that the service’s website is currently accessible only via VPN.

In January 2022, Russia’s Prosecutor General fined MyHeritage 1.5 million rubles (about $20,000 at the time) for refusing to store Russian user data on servers based inside Russia.
