Russia’s Internal Affairs Ministry has put opposition politician Ilya Yashin on the wanted list, reports independent outlet Mediazona.
The publication reports that Yashin’s name appeared in the database of people wanted for crimes in Russia, but that Russian authorities have made no official announcement of a criminal case against him.
Yashin told Mediazona that he “knows nothing” about his appearance on the wanted list or a possible new criminal case. “It seems like they’re opening a criminal case quietly so that they can arrest me directly in the airport if I decide to return to Russia. I’m not surprised, of course. This was to be expected,” he said.
Ilya Yashin was freed from Russian prison as part of a prisoner exchange on August 1, 2024.
