Trump says U.S. missiles shouldn’t be used for strikes on Russian territory

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said he was opposed to allowing Ukraine to use American long-range missiles to strike Russia.

“I disagree very vehemently with sending missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why are we doing that?” Trump said in an interview with Time magazine, which named him its 2024 “Person of the Year.” “We’re just escalating this war and making it worse.”

Addressing whether he would cut U.S. support for Ukraine, Trump said he would use American assistance as a tool to pressure Moscow in negotiations.

“I want to reach an agreement [for a cease-fire],” he said, “and the only way you’re going to reach an agreement is not to abandon [Ukraine].”
