The authorities in Russia’s Tomsk region have announced that starting on January 1, 2025, female college and university students who register for pregnancy care will receive payments of 100,000 rubles (approximately $975).
A similar initiative will be launched in the Altai region, where pregnant students will receive the payment as part of a program to boost the local birth rate, Social Protection Minister Natalia Oskina said in an interview with Amic.ru on Monday.
According to the independent outlet 7x7, at least 11 regions in Russia have introduced similar payments targeting female students or young women aged 18 to 25 who give birth.
