Washington won’t revise its own nuclear doctrine in response to Russia’s ‘irresponsible rhetoric’ — Bloomberg
The U.S. government said on Tuesday that it doesn’t plan to revisit America’s own nuclear doctrine in response to Russia’s newly amended nuclear deterrence policy. A U.S. National Security Council spokesperson told Bloomberg that the White House views Moscow’s latest move as “more of the same irresponsible rhetoric from Russia, which we have seen for the past two years.”
Bloomberg also noted that several world leaders have avoided speaking directly about the latest developments in Russia’s war against Ukraine. At the G20 summit in Brazil, President Joe Biden still hasn’t officially acknowledged his reported decision to authorize Ukraine’s use of U.S.-provided long-range ATACMS missiles for strikes on Russian soil. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral meetings with his counterparts in France and Germany. The official readouts “notably lacked [Xi’s] normally explicit calls against the use of nuclear weapons,” noted Bloomberg.
