Kremlin denies reports that Putin and Trump spoke by phone last week
The Kremlin has denied reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump spoke on the phone after Trump’s election victory last week.
“There was no conversation. This is an obvious example of the quality of the information currently being published, sometimes even in fairly respected outlets. It is completely untrue. It’s a pure fabrication, just false information,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.
Earlier, The Washington Post, citing knowledgeable sources, reported that Putin and Trump held a phone conversation on November 7 in which the future U.S. president advised Putin “not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington’s sizable military presence in Europe.”
