Two weeks after saying Donbas Front ‘has crumbled,’ Ukrainian general resigns, citing health reasons
Ukrainian Major General Dmytro Marchenko announced on Friday that he has resigned from the army due to health reasons. He shared the news on Facebook, along with a photograph showing him with an IV in what appears to be a hospital bed.
Despite the cited health reasons, politics might also have forced Marchenko to step down.
The major general’s announcement comes less than two weeks after he said in an interview that Ukraine’s defenses in the east are nearly overrun. “We all know — I’m not revealing a military secret when I say — that our front has crumbled,” Marchenko told former Verkhovna Rada deputy Boryslav Bereza, blaming the collapsing front on shortages of ammunition and manpower and “disruptions in the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ command structure.”
