Russia is facing a major shortage of about 600,000 engineers, the newspaper Vedomosti reported on Tuesday, citing a statement from Victoria Khaba, a vice president at the electronics manufacturers Aquarius.

The problem pertains to nearly all types of engineers, including electronics engineers, design engineers, and process engineers, according to Khaba. She said that one in five companies in Russia is seeking engineering personnel.

Data from the website hh.ru shows that from January to October 2024, employers in Russia posted more than 636,000 engineering positions. This marks a 13 percent increase from the same period in 2023, when 565,000 positions were posted. Additionally, the median salary for engineers offered on the platform rose by 18 percent between those two periods.
