Russian missile strikes on Odesa kill 20, injure more than 70

Update: The death toll from the attack has risen to 20, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported on the evening of March 15. According to Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Ministry, 73 people were injured. Odesa’s former deputy mayor, Serhii Tetiukin, and police special forces commander Oleksandr Hostishchev are among the dead, said local council member Andrii Vagapov.

At least 14 people were killed and 46 injured in a Russian missile strike on Ukraine’s Odesa, reports Governor Oleh Kiper.

According to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, the attack occurred on Friday at 11:00 a.m. local time. Several emergency workers are listed among the casualties. Buildings and vehicles were also damaged.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that there were two waves of missile strikes on Odesa. The second attack came as rescuers were dealing with the aftermath of the first. An emergency worker was killed in the second strike.

Other State Emergency Service workers and medical personnel were injured, said Kiper. He added that some are in critical condition.

March 16 has been declared a day of mourning in the Odesa region.
