White House announces over 500 new sanctions against Russia over war in Ukraine and Navalny’s death
The White House announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russia on Friday in response to the war in Ukraine and the death of Alexey Navalny.
The sanctions will target Russia’s “financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks and sanctions evaders across multiple continents,” according to the announcement.
The U.S. is also imposing export restrictions on nearly 100 organizations that have helped support “Russia’s war machine,” the statement said, as well as pursuing measures to “further reduce Russia’s energy revenues.”
These sanctions will “ensure Putin pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home,” according to the White House.
The full list of new sanctions has not been published.
