Locomotive and freight train collision in Russia's Chelyabinsk region derails 12 cars

Twelve cars derailed when a locomotive collided with a freight train at a station in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region on Monday, reports the South Ural Railway’s press service.

According to the investigation, the locomotive driver may be at fault, as he reportedly continued past a stop signal while intoxicated, reported the Russian Investigative Committee’s Central Interregional Transport Investigation Department.

No one was injured in the incident.

South Ural Railway’s press service said that by Tuesday morning, traffic had been restored on one of the tracks. Work to restore the adjacent track is ongoing, and some trains are delayed or canceled.
