The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has disqualified Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for a period of four years for violating anti-doping rules.
“Having carefully considered all the evidence put before it, the CAS Panel concluded that Ms Valieva was not able to establish, on the balance of probabilities and on the basis of the evidence before the Panel, that she had not committed the ADRV (Anti-Doping Rule Violation) intentionally,” reads the statement.
The CAS said that the four-year ban would be counted from December 25, 2021, when Valieva tested positive for doping. The court decision also states that all of Valieva’s competitive results from that date on would be disqualified.
The International Skating Union will be responsible for considering the redistribution of awards from the 2022 Olympics, reports Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
Valieva tested positive for doping on December 25, 2021. This became known on February 8, 2022, the day after the conclusion of the team competition at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, where the Russian team (which Kamila Valieva is a part of) won.
