Russian officials launch terrorism investigation after bomb derails freight train

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case after a freight train derailed in the Ryazan region, reports the agency’s press service.

According to the investigation, an improvised explosive device was detonated in the Ryazan region on the morning of November 11, causing 19 of the train’s cars to derail. The Investigative Committee added that 15 of the train’s cars were damaged.

As a result of the incident, the agency opened a case under articles on terrorism and the illegal acquisition, transfer, or storage of explosive devices.
