‘Thank your son’: Belarusian authorities search home of anti-Lukashenko novelist’s parents and detain his father

Belarusian writer and Lukashenko critic Sasha Filipenko, who lives in Switzerland, reported Thursday that seven armed men searched the home of his parents in Belarus.

“They searched my home. Seven men with machine guns. They took my dad. They told my mom: ‘Thank your son.’ It’s obvious that they’re trying to pressure me so that I’ll stop speaking out in the European press,” he wrote on Facebook.

Filipenko was an active participant in the protests against the Lukashenko regime in 2020 and has repeatedly spoken out in support of Belarusian political prisoners.
