Yekaterinburg authorities call for police help in city’s fight against phallic snow sculptures

Locals in Yekaterinburg have been making snow sculptures in the shape of male genitalia around the city. Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexey Orlov called the trend a “disgrace,” while Alexey Bubnov, the city’s vice-mayor who is responsible for city landscaping, has called for police assistance in the fight against snow penises.

It’s My City reports that the phallic formations began appearing after an end-of-October snowfall in Yekaterinburg. Unknown individuals sculpted one in the square outside the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theater and the Ural State University. Municipal service workers soon demolished it with a tractor.

After this, “snowdicks” started appearing in neighborhoods across the city.

Orlov said city workers would destroy them, adding: “There’s nothing to comment on here. It’s a disgrace.”

Bubnov called the fad a “provocation” and suggested the sculptors might face administrative charges if people are offended. He asked the public to send him photos of the aberrant snow penises so they could be removed.

On November 3, a petition appeared on Change.org, calling for Yekaterinburg residents to stop making the explicit effigies. At the time of publication, it has 17 signatures.
