Russia launches drone attack near Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant, injuring at least 18 people
Russia launched an attack near Ukraine’s Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant overnight on October 25, reported Ukraine’s Energy Ministry. “As a result of the explosion, windows were damaged in the administrative and laboratory buildings,” reads the ministry’s statement.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia had launched a drone attack, with Ukrainian air defense forces shooting down all 11 drones. The Khmelnytskyi region’s administration stated that the downed “aerial targets” crashed into the territory of a critical infrastructure facility in the Shepetivka district. The facility in question was not specified. The Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is located near the town of Netishyn in the Shepetivka district.
The Ministry of Energy reported that 1,860 consumers in the cities of Slavuta and Netishyn were without electricity due to damage to power lines.
According to preliminary information from Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, two fire and rescue units in Slavuta and Netishyn were damaged in the attack. Eleven multi-story buildings, nine private houses, a high school, and a police department building were also damaged.
Slavuta Mayor Vasyl Sydor said that approximately 300 residential houses, all 28 educational institutions, a hospital, and an industrial facility in the city were damaged. According to the mayor, 18 people were injured as a result of the attack, with two of them in intensive care.
