Detained Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva remanded in custody until December 5

A Kazan court has remanded journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, who has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Russia, in custody until December 5, the RFE/RL project Idel.Realii reported on Monday. The hearing was closed to the media.

Kurmasheva, who works for RFE/RL’s Tatar-Bashkir Service, was arrested on October 19 on charges of failing to voluntarily register as a “foreign agent.” She could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
