Putin calls supply of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine ‘another mistake by the U.S.’

Vladimir Putin commented on the U.S. supply of ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

“First of all, this is harmful, of course. It creates an additional threat. Secondly, we can, of course, repel these attacks. […] But the most important thing is that this has absolutely no chance of changing the situation on the line of contact. It’s impossible,” said the Russian leader.

This is another mistake by the United States. And on multiple counts. Firstly, if they weren’t supplying weapons, they would be able to say in the future: “See, if we had supplied everything we could, the situation would have changed, and it would have led to more casualties. Aren’t we virtuous for not doing that?” But they did supply weapons. And there will be no results. That alone makes it a mistake. And finally, there’s no benefit here for Ukraine, either. It simply prolongs the agony.

Putin went on to say that the “larger” but “as-yet invisible” mistake is the U.S. “getting drawn further into this conflict.”
