Russian governor reported to police after saying regional authorities ‘were not prepared’ for war in Ukraine and have ‘no need’ for it
In a meeting with constituents on Sunday, Natalya Komarova, the governor of Russia’s Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, said that the country’s regional authorities were not prepared for the full-scale war in Ukraine and that they have “no need” for it.
The governor’s statement came in response to a question from a woman whose husband is fighting in Ukraine about why soldiers were not issued backpacks with equipment. Komarova responded as follows:
You’re asking me? Knowing that I’m the governor, not the defense minister? […] As a whole, we weren’t prepared for this war. We have no need for it. We were building a completely different world. In this regard, there are certainly going to be some inconsistencies and unresolved issues. Does everything work out for you at your job? It doesn’t for me.
According to the Radio Europe/Radio Free Liberty affiliate Sibir.Realii, Komarova has already been reported to law enforcement for “discrediting” the Russian army.
