Putin may announce 2024 presidential run in November, sources tell Kommersant
Russian President Vladimir Putin may announce his campaign for another presidential term next month, the newspaper Kommersant reported on Tuesday citing sources in Putin’s executive office.
According to Kommersant’s sources, the “informal” presidential campaign is slated to begin in November, with Putin announcing his 2024 bid at the opening of the “Russia” expo — an international forum that will take place at the VDNKh exhibition center in Moscow. However, Kommersant also noted that other options are still being considered.
Sources also told Kommersant that the campaign will revolve around the concept of Russia as a separate civilization that “fights for its values” and remains consolidated in the face of enemies. Russia’s “special military operation” — the Kremlin’s official term for its ongoing war against Ukraine — will also feature in Putin’s presidential campaign “exactly as much as necessary,” an unnamed source said.
Meduza reported that the “Russia” expo was under consideration as a potential forum for Putin’s 2024 campaign announcement back in July.
