Poland to halt weapons transfers to Ukraine, focus on arming itself

In a statement that drew widespread media attention amid disagreements between Kyiv and Warsaw over Ukrainian grain exports, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that the country was “no longer transferring weapons to Ukraine” because Poland was working on arming itself.

"Ukraine is defending itself from a brutal attack by Russia, and I understand this situation, but, as I’ve already said, we will defend our country," Morawiecki said.

Morawiecki emphasized that the Rzeszów hub through which NATO countries transfer weapons to Ukraine would “continue to perform” its role.

The interview did not make clear the timing of any stop to operations.

Poland has provided more than 3 billion euros ($3.2 billion) worth of military aid to Kyiv since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
