Kazakhstan’s government has established a list of people and organizations analogous to Russia’s “foreign agents” registry, according to the Kazakhstsani news outlet Exclusive.kg.
The first version of the list, which contains “entities that receive money or other property from foreign states, international or foreign organizations, or foreigners” and was published on September 20, contains 240 people and organizations, including independent media outlets, journalists, environmental groups, human rights organizations, and NGOs.
In contrast to Russia’s “foreign agents” legislation, Kazakhstani law does not currently impose any restrictions on the people or organizations included on the list.
