By-invitation-only funeral ceremony for Yevgeny Prigozhin took place at St. Petersburg’s Porokhovskoye Cemetery
The press service of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s management company Concord Group has announced that a funeral ceremony for Prigozhin, who attempted an armed insurrection in Russia earlier this summer, took place today at the Porokhovskoye Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
The funeral was by invitation only, the company said, adding that “those who wish to say farewell can visit the Porokhovskoye Cemetery.” The press release did not say explicitly that Prigozhin has been interred there.
The cemetery’s administration has confirmed that Prigozhin was buried around 1 p.m. local time. According to a staff member, the cemetery did not publicize the funeral’s location in advance because Prigozhin’s family had wished to keep it secret.
RIA Novosti writes that only family members and closest friends were present at the funeral.
Information about funeral plans for Yevgeny Prigozhin had been classified by the authorities. Although apparent funeral preparations had been noticed at three different cemeteries around St. Petersburg, Porokhovskoye Cemetery wasn’t one of them.
