Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reports that Colonel Vitaly Kints, the head of a Donetsk fire rescue squad, has died in the hospital after receiving critical injuries from an August 7 missile strike on the city of Pokrovsk.
The Pokrovsk missile strike killed 10 people, among them the deputy head of the Donetsk Regional Emergency Service Colonel Andrey Omelchenko. It injured another 80 people.
The city of Pokrovsk was struck by two Iskander missiles on the evening of August 7. The attack destroyed or damaged apartment buildings and private houses, administrative buildings, eateries, and a hotel. The Ukrainian authorities blamed Russian troops for the attack.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said that the strike on “Krasnoarmeysk” (the Soviet name for Pokrovsk) was carried out on an Armed Forces of Ukraine “forward command post.”
