Zelensky fires military enlistment chiefs in all Ukrainian regions

Volodymyr Zelensky announced Friday that the heads of all of Ukraine’s regional military enlistment offices will be dismissed.

According to the Ukrainian president, the authorities have opened 112 criminal investigations against enlistment officials and 33 people have already been charged. He said the fired officials will be replaced by veterans.

“This system should be run by people who know exactly what war is and why cynicism and bribery in wartime amount to treason. Soldiers who have passed through the front or who can’t be in the trenches because they’ve lost their health or limbs but have maintained their dignity and not become cynical — those are the people who can be trusted with the recruitment system,” he said.

Zelensky put Ukraine’s top commander, General Valery Zaluzhny, in charge of implementing the decision. New enlistment officials will undergo investigations by the State Security Service before being appointed.
