Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky says that the Russian military has placed “objects resembling explosives” on the roof of several power units of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

“It’s possible that [Russian forces have done this], in order to simulate a strike on the station,” said Zelensky. He also warned French President Emmanuel Macron that Russian troops are planning “dangerous provocations” at the Zaporizhzhia plant.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Health issued recommendations in the event of an explosion at the power plant. These include for those residents in the “zone of a potential radiation accident” to prepare for evacuation.

Renat Karchaa, an adviser to Russian nuclear power company Rosenergoatom, told state news agency TASS that Ukraine’s Armed Forces are preparing to attack the Zaporizhzhia plant on July 5 using ammunition with radioactive waste.
