Saudi-owned news channel says Russian military police detained multiple Wagner Group officers in Syria
Update: Multiple Telegram channels linked to Wagner Group denied that any of the mercenary company’s commanders have been detained in Syria.
Russian military police apprehended the head of a Wagner Group unit in the Syrian city of As Suwayda, the Saudi-owned news channel Al-Hadath has reported, according to the Russian newspaper Kommersant. (The story has not appeared on Al-Hadath’s site as of this writing.)
The outlet also reportedly said three high-ranking Wagner Group commanders were detained at Syria’s Khmeimim Air Base, and that police visited Wagner headquarters in the cities of Deir ez-Zur, Hama, and Damascus.
These reports have not been independently verified.
