The Russian government has created a federal enterprise under the name “Novorossiya Railroads.” The relevant decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and published on the government’s website on Wednesday.
Moscow plans to use the new entity to manage the railroads on the Ukrainian territories that Russia has annexed, including the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk “republics” and the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
“This decision will allow for the development of a unified set of logistics in these four regions, updates to the fleet of cars and locomotives, and the creation of a unified transport management system,” reads the post on the government’s site.
The new structure is set to be headquartered in Donetsk.
