Medvedev says ‘conflict in Ukraine’ could be ‘going on for decades’

During an official visit to Vietnam on Friday, Russian Security Council Deputy Chair (and former President) Dmitry Medvedev told journalists that the “military conflict” in Ukraine will be “long-lasting.”

“This will be going on for decades, probably. It’s our new reality, the new conditions of life,” Medvedev said. He added that if Ukraine doesn’t undergo a change of government, there will be “three years of a ceasefire, two years of conflict, and it will all repeat.”

On May 18, Politico reported that U.S. officials are considering the possibility that the war in Ukraine could become a frozen conflict that lasts “many years,” comparing it to the Korean War.
