Serviceman stripped of rank, sentenced to 13 years in secret treason trial

The classified trial of Sergeant Artyom Semyonov, who served in Russia’s Belgorod region, concluded in Moscow today. A military court found Semyonov guilty of high treason.

The defendant has been stripped of his military rank and sentenced to 13 years in a high-security penal colony, Interfax reports.

According to the public case documents, Semyonov had been arrested on March 30, 2022. The prosecution’s treason charges were connected to violations that allegedly took place before the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The trial was classified as secret. No further details about the case have been made public.
