The Crimean Bridge’s second railway track reopened to traffic on May 5, according to the Kremlin website.
“Today’s an important day – we’re fully reopening following the reconstruction of the Crimean Bridge’s second railway track, which was damaged by fire during the explosion last year. In just seven months, we were able to complete the reconstruction. Under ordinary circumstances, this would have definitely taken more than one year — more like two or three years,” reported Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.
Khusnullin called it “symbolic” that traffic on the bridge resumed in time for Victory Day on May 9.
On the morning of October 8, 2022, a freight truck exploded on the only bridge linking Russia and Crimea. The blast caused three spans of the bridge’s automobile section to collapse and multiple fuel cisterns to ignite.
