Russia developing ‘border protection’ measures in response to Finland’s NATO accession

Russia’s military has begun developing protection measures for the country’s northwestern border in response to Finland’s accession to NATO, Russian air defense forces commander and Russian Aerospace Forces deputy commander Andrey Demin told the Russian Defense Ministry’s newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda on Monday.

“On April 5, Finland joined the NATO bloc. Sweden is preparing to enter the alliance. Given these conditions, [Russia’s] anti-air defense troops are working out issues related to the defense of the state borders in the northwest of the country in accordance with the increased threat level,” said Demin. He didn’t specify what form these measures will take.
