Russian Investigative Committee opens a criminal case against economist Konstantin Sonin
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under the statute on “fakes” about the Russian Army against Konstantin Sonin, a professor of economics at the University of Chicago and a former professor at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics.
Russian state news agency TASS reports that the case is related to posts Sonin published on his Telegram channel. According to the investigation, “the suspect, who was located outside of the Russian Federation, repeatedly, in the period from April to July 2022, posted deliberately false information about the activities of the Russian military and the special military operation.”
The investigation also added that “experts” found “linguistic and psychological indications of arousing hatred and enmity toward Russian military personnel” in the professor’s publications.
Sonin has not commented on the situation.
