Russian FSB arrests Khabarovsk activist on treason charges for allegedly sending money to Ukrainian military
The Russian FSB announced Monday that it had arrested an activist from the “I / We are Furgal” movement, whose members oppose the criminal charges against former Khabarovsk Governor Sergey Furgal, for allegedly providing financial support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“It’s been established that the suspect, motivated by political hatred and enmity, transferred her personal funds so that the ZSU could purchase weapons, ammunition, and uniforms,” the agency said in a statement, according to TASS.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, has reportedly been charged with state treason, which carries a sentence of 12–20 years in prison. Hers is the second known case of a person facing criminal charges for allegedly financing the Ukrainian military.
Sergey Furgal was sentenced last month to 22 years in prison on contract killing charges, though he maintains his innocence. His arrest in 2020 sparked months-long mass protests in Khabarovsk.
