Russia has plenty of domestic Viagra analogs to treat erectile dysfunction

Viatris, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, has notified the Russian government that it’s going to pause deliveries to Russia. The Trade Ministry has acknowledged getting notified of this in 2022, to Interfax.

The ministry also points out that Russia has the “technological capabilities” to manufacture Sildenafil, the generic drug marketed by Viatris as Viagra.

According to the Russian pharmaceuticals registry, Russia has approved more than 40 domestic drugs with this active ingredient, now manufactured by eight domestic companies and available at Russian pharmacies. Thousands of pharmacies still have Viagra in stock as well.

In March 2022, another U.S. pharmaceutical company, Eli Lilly, also stopped delivering its erectile dysfunction drug, Cialis, to Russia.
