Russian authorities add former Memorial lawyer Ilya Novikov to federal wanted list
The Russian Interior Ministry has put a federal warrant out for lawyer Ilya Novikov’s arrest. According to the wanted list on the agency’s official website, the lawyer is the target of a criminal case.
Novikov has been involved in a number of high-profile court cases in Russia and Ukraine. In addition to serving as a defense lawyer for Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner Memorial, he’s represented Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko, Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, and former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko. Novikov has lived in Kyiv since 2021.
