Russia builds fortifications in annexed Crimea

Source: Meduza

Regional authorities are building defense fortifications in the Russian-annexed Crimea. This was reported by Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian-appointed head of the region.

In his Telegram post, Aksyonov stated that fortifications will “guarantee the safety” of the Crimean residents. He also noted that the order for their construction came from President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, the OSINT researcher Benjamin Pittet published satellite images of trenches visible in the north of the Crimean peninsula.

Following the Russian surrender of Kherson, some observers expect that the Ukrainian army might continue advancing south, and attempt to take back the Crimea.

The peninsula was annexed by Russia in 2014.
