Source: RBK

Russian Deputy Transport Minister Alexander Sukhanov, whose responsibilities include transportation security, plans to resign, according to the Russian outlet RBK.

Two sources close to the Transport Ministry told RBK that Sukhanov is leaving because of the October 8 explosion on the Crimean Bridge. According to one of the sources, he might announce his resignation by the end of this week; according to the other, Sukhanov could still change his mind or delay the announcement.

Both the Russian government and the Russian Transport Ministry declined to comment on the reports.

Happy birthday, Mr. President

The day before the Crimean Bridge explosion was Vladimir Putin's 70th birthday; Ukrainian officials have hinted that the blast was a "birthday present" for the Russian president. Meanwhile, Meduza marked the occasion by speaking to sources close to the Russian government about how things are going for the president. Their accounts painted a picture of a Kremlin in serious crisis.
