The Belgorod region was shelled on October 16, setting off its air defense system. RIA Novosti correspondents report 16 explosions.

According to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkin, preliminary data suggest three members of the same family were injured. He later reported that an elderly resident of the area had a concussion, and a resident of the Shebekinsky district stepped on a mine and lost a foot.

In a video of the explosions, people off screen say that the strikes hit the airport. This information has not been officially confirmed.

The territory of Belogord has been shelled regularly in recent days. On October 13, part of the roof of a multi-story building collapsed, apparently after an air defense missile crashed. On the 14th, an electric substation in the city caught fire after shelling. On the 15th, the same thing happened to an oil depot.

Shelling in Belgorod is happening in the context of increased Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory, including on energy infrastructure. Massive shelling began after the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, which the FSB says Ukrainian intelligence services is responsible for.
