Zaporizhia subject to massive shelling. 13 people are dead, over 80 injured

By the latest count, 13 people have been killed and another 87 injured by shelling in the city of Zaporizhia during the night of October 9, the Zaporizhia regional military administration reports to Ukrainian broadcasting company Hromadske.

The secretary of the Zaporozhia city council announced earlier that 17 people had been killed, though that information is unconfirmed.

Oleksandr Starukh, head of the Zaporizhia regional administration, said that Russian aviation launched 12 missiles at Zaporizhia. He also said that a nine-story residential building had been partially destroyed, five private homes were completely destroyed, and important infrastructure and around 20 cars were damaged. The head of the region added that there may be people remaining under the rubble.

The acting mayor, Anatoly Kurtev, said that around 20 private homes and around 50 multistory buildings, as well as four educational institutions, had been damaged.

In times of war it is impossible to immediately verify information disseminated by either side of the conflict.

On September 30, Russia declared an annexation of Zaporizhia, along with Kherson and the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk “people’s republics.”
