First lawsuit to overturn individual conscription order filed in St. Petersburg
Russia's first administrative lawsuit against a military commissariat and draft commission has been filed in a St. Petersburg court. The plaintiff claims the draft commission’s decision to conscript him is unlawful and demands to be made exempt from mobilization, according to St. Petersburg’s court press service.
According to Daniil Bakalinsky, on September 22, he went to his local military commissariat to deal with some military registration paperwork. Later that day, he says, he was served a draft summons without ever undergoing a medical inspection or establishing whether he was exempt from conscription. Bakalinsky says military service goes against his beliefs and he has requested to perform alternative service instead.
